Presentation College Bray PPU, Centenary Golf Outing
The Centenary Golf outing attracted 36 past pupils and their guests to Bray Golf Club on Friday 10th September 2021. Shorts were the order of the day, and some stunning golf was produced!
I wish to thank our sponsors Alex O’Sullivan of Dockyard No. 8 and Jeff Doyle of Firetrade together with our photographer Ruairi Megannety and Morgan Walsh who did the cards.
Bray Golf Club was in terrific condition, and we were warmly hosted by the President of Bray Golf Club and past pupil Tony Quinn. Following the golf, we were treated to a sumptuous meal served up by Keira and her team at Maisonmoli.
In all the years I have been involved playing in or organising this event, I have never seen such high scoring! Normally you would expect that 41 points should win this competition but, on this occasion, it was only good enough for 3rd place with John Slevin of Milltown being the recipient. John has been knocking on the door as he was runner up in 2019! Perhaps 2022 will be his year.
The runner up this year is Brain Laide of Concra Wood. His score of 46 points off a handicap of 35 is the envy of many a golfer. However, top of the crop is octogenarian Michael Dunne of Rosslare who scored a hugely impressive 47 points off 34.
Previous winners of The Scannell Cup of which there were 12 competed for the Past Winners Prize and current President of the Union, Brendan Toolan, prevailed with 40 points. Amongst the visitors representing the current pupils was Gavin Rochford who also had 40 points playing off +1!!!
It was a pleasure to welcome Sean Doyle who travelled from Co. Sligo for the outing and Andy Cummins who reconnected with the school from his base in London. In the raffle, Tony Tierney won the 4 ball to Bray while Paddy Downer won brunch for two at Dockyard No. 8.
We hope you can join us in September 2022 when we will return to Bray Golf Club with its magnificent vistas.
Kind regards
Brendan Toolan
